Community activists, business leaders, faith leaders, and many concerned citizens came together at a community breakfast to discuss issues that affect the communities East of the River in DC.  The breakfast was hosted by Busboys and Poet’s owner Andy Shallal, on September 17th at the newly opened Busboys and Poets located on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, S.E.  Mr. Shallal called the community meeting as a brainstorming session for different sectors of the community to come together and find solutions to the problems affecting Wards 7 and 8.  Issues discussed ranged from gun violence and crime, employment opportunities, community engagement and other topics.  The meeting started with a list of ideas provided from a prior meeting, and on-line engagement with community leaders prior to the meeting.  Many provided additional input, and agreed to continue engagement of the community.  The community breakfasts will continue to meet every Tuesday at 8am at the Anacostia Busboys and Poets on 2004 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20020.  Anyone wanting to contribute to the communities in Ward 7 and Ward 8 are welcome to attend.
