Fiesta DC celebrated its 43rd showing in Washington DC on September 22. Fiesta DC put together a series of events, including a beauty pageant, an evening gala, and the festival, which included a parade of nations on Constitution Avenue. The main festival took place on Pennsylvania Avenue. This year the Dominican contingency to the festival was sponsored by the Dominican Studies Institute at the City University of New York (CUNY). The Dominican Participation included drums, a decorated vehicle that plaid Merengue music, ladies wearing dresses with the Dominican flag colors, and others dressed in Dominican carnival costumes. Some of the participants travelled from New York City to participate in the parade in the Nation’s Capital. With over 100,000 attendees, Fiesta DC is the largest Latino festival in the region and one of the largest festivals celebrating Latino heritage in the eastern part of the US.
