Activist Ana Rodriguez hosted a panel discussion with community leaders and candidates seeking political office in the DC Democratic Primary. The activist-led community dialogue included topics such as education, immigration, and DC Statehood. The panel discussion was followed by a meet-and-greet with Ms. Kinney Zalesne, a candidate seeking to replace DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton in Congress. Late last year, Congresswoman Norton announced she would seek another term in Congress, but that has not stopped many people from running for the seat the Congresswoman has occupied since 1990. While Ms. Zalesne says she has lived in DC for decades, she is a relatively unknown figure in DC politics. Other Panelists included Ms. Jackie Reyes-Yanes, a former Mayor Bowser appointee, and now candidate for the Ward 1 seat currently occupied by Brianne Nadeau, who has said she will not be seeking an additional term. Another panelist was Dr. Oye Owolewa, the current US (Shadow) Representative who is running for an At-large seat on the DC Council. Other panelists were: Rev. Anthony J. Motley and Mustafa Tariq. The moderator was Ms. Yvette Selby. The event was held at the DC Bilingual Public Charter School in Ward 5.
