A number of organizations celebrated DC Statehood Day in Washington, DC.  Now in its 4th year, the tradition that started in 2023 with a press conference at the National Press Club with DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton has now extended to a celebration of a few days, with various organizations joining the effort.  The DC Statehood PAC hosted a social event commemorating the day at Bus Boys and Poets with keynote speaker DC Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb.  Other guests included DC Council Chairman Phil Mendeson and various candidates running for political office.  Other events hosted around DC Statehood Day included a dinner sponsored by Workers United and a mass and peace walk at the Covenant Baptist United Church of Christ.  DC Statehood Day, celebrated on May 1st, is a day of awareness and advocacy for the residents of Washington DC to express their desire to become the 51st state in the Union.  A Mayoral Proclamation is issued on this day, officially recognizing May 1st as DC Statehood Day.
