To commemorate the 93rd birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, on January 17th, 2022, the Coalition for Peace organized the 16th Annual MLK Peace Walk. The over 1 mile walk started at the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, in Washington DC, and concluded on Minnesota Avenue, S.E. Hundreds joined organizers and Martin Luther King III, the oldest living child of Dr. King. The Peace Walk is part of the commemorative celebrations that take place in Washington DC during the MLK federal holiday. Other events include a parade, and a prayer breakfast. Because of the Pandemic, fewer events were held this year. Many hoped to use the Peace Walk to call on Congress to pass Voting Rights legislation, including DC Statehood, and to end the filibuster.
