DC Latino Caucus Elects New Boardmembers

On February, 21, the DC Latino Caucus elected 4 new Boardmembers and 2 Advisors to its board. The addition to the organization comes at a critical time when Latinos locally and nationally are getting more attention. The new addition to the Board are a way to strengthen the organization and to engage more Latinos in the political process in the nation’s capital. The new additions to the board are: Mario Ascencio, Library Director, Juan Camilo Barragan, DC City Constituent Services Coordinator, Pedro Rubio, Contract Specialist, Amilcar Guzman, Community Organizer, and Advisors: Oscar Lasso, HR Professional, and Jennifer Vasquez, Communication Specialist.

The DC Latino Caucus is an organization that serves as a channel for the participation and involvement of Latinos in civic engagement and political activities within the greater Washington DC Metropolitan area. Through its PAC, started in 2005, the DC Latino Caucus PAC, the organization engages in political endorsement to Democratic candidates and sends two voting members to the DC Democratic State Committee, the official arm of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in Washington DC. On March 13th, The DC Latino Caucus will be partnering with other community organizations to host a candidates’ forum for the April 23rd, DC Council special election. The Caucus is also working on hosting an Immigration Reform forum in April before the national Immigration March in Washington scheduled for April 10th, 2013.
