The Salvadoran American Chamber of Commerce (SACOCDC) hosted its 1st Annual Gala. The Gala was hosted at the Marriot Hotel in Tysons Corner, Virginal on December 1, 2012. Nearly 200 guests attended the event, including some of the area business and political leaders from the Salvadoran Community. Remarks were given by Salvadoran Ambassador, Mr. Francisco Altschul, former Salvadoran Consul General Ana Margarita Chavez, El Tiempo Latino’s Executive Director Albrerto Avendaño and the President of the Salvadoran American Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Henry Bonilla. The keynote speaker was Mr. Jose Angel Quiroz, Executive Director of Fomilenio, who flew in from the El Salvador to attend event. Other locals that attended event included Maryland Councilmember Wil Campos, Maryland State Senator Victor Ramirez, Arlington County Board Vice Chair Walter Tejada, and Mario Sol, local Univision Anchor, amongst other guests. Salvadorans are the largest Latino group in the DC area, with a large concentration of Salvadorans living in Virginia. The Salvadoran Chamber of Commerce estimates that there are over 3,500 Salvadoran owned businesses in the DC Metropolitan area.
