On June 5th, 2015 hundreds showed up at the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter School, Sonia Gutierrez Campus, to be part of a street naming ceremony. The 500 block of V street NE, was named Sonia Gutierrez Campus Way to honor the 2nd campus of the Carlos Rosario School and its founder Sonia Gutierrez. Attendees to the well-attended event included, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, Councilmembers, Anita Bonds, Vincent Orange, Kenyan McDuffie and Brandon Todd, Senator Paul Strauss, Senator Michael D. Brown and US Representative Franklin Garcia. The historical event marked the first time a Latina has a street named after her in the Nation’s Capital. Sonia Gutierrez has dedicated over 43 years to adult education in the city, and is the founder of the Carlos Rosario International Public Charter school.
